The contract involves building the northern runway, taxiway system, aprons, roads, utility buildings and other civil works.

Additional packages will cover a terminal building, an air traffic control tower and ancillary buildings.

The CCC-TAV joint venture was not the lowest bidder for the work; however, the National Economy Ministry has not yet revealed why they have been preferred over the lowest bidder.

CCC-TAV is also bidding to build the passenger terminal and air traffic control tower at the airport.

The airport will be upgraded to accomodate 12 million passengers during the initial stage and subsequently to 48 million. The initial stage is scheduled for completion in 2011. The airport was renamed from the previous name ‘Seeb’ to Muscat International Airport.

The expansion project for the airport, which was previous named ‘Seeb’, includes a modern terminal and a runway that can handle the new Airbus A380. It also incorporates a 90 meter high control tower, 32 aerobridges, a new cargo terminal and parking slots for 600 vehicles.
