Bonyan for Development and Trade, subsidiary of ‘Citadel Capital’, private equity firm based in Egypt and Africa, has completed construction of ‘Designopolis’, the region’s first design and shopping destination for home and office furniture, in Cairo, Egypt.

Bonyan has completed all stages of construction and has launched Phases 1 and 2 of Designopolis mall. Local and international brands have leased 100% of the first two phases of Designopolis.

The venue will feature local and international furniture and design brands as well as complementary services and attractions. The building will be Egypt’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified construction project.

The mall’s complementary service offerings provide personal shopping and concierge services, a resources bureau, an interior design consultancy, movers and packers, mortgage companies and insurance services.

Construction was completed on schedule in less than 18 months. The first and second phases of the 116,824 square meter open air space are fully leased by major international tenants, including TechnoGym, Artissimo, Archimedia, Madar and Reflection, along with local brands such as Gemma (Al-Jawhara), Amr Helmy, 3 Brothers, Shatex and Taki. Model flagship stores already welcoming customers include Bo Concept, Maison Coloniale, Roche Bobois, Alessi, and Art of Form.

Designed by world-renowned Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), Designopolis West is conceptualized to harmonize the human experience within a natural landscape. Designpolis West features an open air design with an 800-meter façade on the road, along with 60,000 square meters of shop area, with the capacity to host 200 shops.

Designpolis East has a 125-meter façade on the main road. It features a leasable area of about 59,000 square meters, with the capacity to host 140 shops. It has a vertical structure with three floors. This retail development is designed by US- based architectural talent John Jerde.

Bonyan for Development and Trade was established in July 2007 to carry out specialized commercial projects in Egypt initially, and the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region to follow.
