The renovation project forms a part of the city’s planned $30 million overhaul of the ballpark. The proposed design schemes will be reviewed by a six-person selection panel and the winning design will be selected. The stadium was opened in 1960 and has a capacity of 9,600.

The teams who have submitted the proposals are: Mortenson Construction with Belay Architecture and Populous; Turner Construction with Ellerbe Becket and TCF Architecture; and Wade Perrow Construction and Barton Malow Company with HKS. These three teams of finalists were selected from a larger pool that submitted initial concept proposals in 2009. The design teams were required to design a new ballpark superstructure, clubhouse, locker rooms, business suites, a public meeting room, concession areas, and restrooms.

Populous boasts a range of projects, from Olympic venues to municipal convention centers. Its work on baseball stadiums is distinct for a blend of old-fashioned aesthetics. The company has to its credit work on at least 18 major league stadiums and four dozen minor league parks.

Ellerbe Becket’s sports and venue projects include a range of college, professional and Olympic sports facilities. HKS has worked on a range of sports projects, from the minor league Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas, to the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.
