A number of projects have been lined up in order to modernize the airport’s facilities that would spread over a period of three years. Amongst the larger developments that the airport would undergo is the expansion of its main passenger terminal, which would be doubled than its original size.
A number of offers have been submitted by contractors, but the airport authorities have not taken their pick on any one. The officials have also had talks with hotel operators and would be considering the construction of a world-class hotel on the airport’s premises.
The airport, officially called John Paul II International Airport Krakow-Balice, is the second busiest airport in Poland after Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport. It had undergone several expansions in the past including the addition of a second terminal in 2007 and construction of a car park, scheduled to open in May 2010.
