The Walnut Creek campus is currently undergoing $621 million expansion scheme. A central rotunda designed by California-based Ratcliff Architects in the new patient tower will be named in honor of the Auxiliary as an expression of gratitude for their leadership campaign gift.

Besides being an architectural focal point, the rotunda is also designed to serve as a useful way-finding feature in the new patient care tower. The rotunda will be enclosed in a glass atrium. It will feature lush bamboo stalks and running water. This water feature is integrated to offer a light-filled garden sanctuary for patients and their families. The construction of rotunda and the expanded hospital is slated for early 2011 opening.

The expansion project at Walnut Creek Campus includes a five-story comprehensive critical care center; 230 new private rooms; three new inpatient surgical suites; 16 additional Intensive Care Neonatal beds; larger, private critical care rooms to accommodate bedside technology; an expanded emergency department; a relocated rooftop helipad with a high-speed elevator directly to the emergency department; specially designed rooms to maximize space for technology, staff and family members; and new lobby, with separate public elevator and corridor system to enhance patient privacy.

John Muir Health Foundation is the charitable fundraising organization for all John Muir Health programs and services. The campaign for John Muir Medical Center – Walnut Creek is the most ambitious program of physical addition and renewal since the hospital was founded in 1965.
