The airport officials stated that a substantial amount of the renovation work would be completed by October 2010; where as some of the new additions would be done by the end of April 2010. The new additions would include installation of a new down escalator, baggage belt and upstairs restrooms. The new luggage belt is slated to be twice the size of the old baggage in length and would be set for use within three weeks.

The geothermal field at the airport would save up to $80,000 of annual energy.

With a part of the renovations reaching completion in the month of April, the airport would move to the next stage of renovation, under which the TSA bag screening room would be closed and the passenger bag checking would be done manually by the airport officials.

Further plans include the renovation of the north wing of the airport and providing a covered parking, for which the airport has asked Alaska’s federal delegation to earmark $1 million.
