The renovation included repainting the magical green dragon, replacing the old motor, several new animal exhibits, a new veterinary and commissary building, an education center, guest services and gift shop, restaurant, new parking lot and pedestrian bridge. A bat house and an outdoor amphitheater will also be included in future.

It also involved addition of four acres for new rides, including a Keep Around Carousel made up of rare species and the Redwood Lookout play area, which has been modeled after a ranger lookout station. A new zoo area has been created which features animal exhibits and a petting zoo. New buildings have been designed around the park, with one of the building made from hay bales to provide insulation. The park also features a system to use recycled water.

Renovation of the park was paid for by a bond measure, approved by voters in 2000. Admission fee for the park is set at $12, with free entry for kids under the age of two years.
