The 555-bed facility sports power-generating solar panels and a rooftop garden to reduce the heat-load and improve the overall ambience. More than 100 fruit trees have also been planted in the campus, and the facility is also cultivating vegetables for consumption.
KTPH is expected to consume 27% less energy than other hospitals of comparable size due to its fewer air-conditioned areas. The design was put through a wind tunnel to ensure that there is always a constant breeze.
Liak Teng Lit, CEO of KTPH, was reported stating that the hospital, which will be fully operational from July 2010, will have many more clinics and facilities for outpatient care, and day surgery. He adds that the facility will also feature more isolation rooms to combat infectious disease outbreak.
The hospital, which took around three and half years to build, will see around 2,000 patients per day once it is fully operational.
