The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has received a government order for the renovation project which includes the replacement of the worn-out chairs at the stadium. A total of 22,400 chairs were installed in 1996 when the stadium was built and are in need of replacement.

M C Josephine, the chairperson of the GCDA said that the replacement work of the chairs will start in two weeks. The tendering process for the painting work has already been initiated and will be done simultaneously with chair replacement. The turfing work at the stadium is still in progress.

Chandran Pillai, the contractor of the project said that the outfield will be laid in four layers. The 250000 square feet ground will feature a drainage facility, which will help in draining out water in 10 minutes. The top layer of the ground will have a combination of sand, fine gravel and neopit, made of coconut fibres.

After the installation of the drainage pipes, the layers of sand and gravel are planned to be used for the leveling of the field with the ground expected to be raised by 25 cm.

It is expected that the Kerala Cricket Association will assist the GCDA in making the centre square for cricket pitches.
