The proposed $1.6 million renovation scheme involves installation of a synthetic turf field, a field lighting system and fencing around the perimeter. These improvements will transform the field from a single-sport site to one that is capable of accommodating five intercollegiate sports: football, women’s lacrosse, women’s field hockey and men’s and women’s soccer, and the men’s club lacrosse team. The field can also be used for intramural games.

The renovation project will include installation of new football goal posts, reinstallation of existing public address system and scoreboard, new asphalt entry ways and walkways and demolition of the home bleachers. The home press box will be retained and new stairs will be built to access it.

The renovation project is designed as a sustainable scheme including recycling of materials and engaging environmentally friendly products. Tons of topsoil removed to install the new turf, and the wood and steel from the home bleacher area, will be recycled.

Construction of a concession and conference building, a formal entrance to the complex, new bleachers, are also under the plans. The new energy-efficient lighting system by Musco Sports Lighting will direct more light onto the playing surface instead of being wasted as spill and glare light.

The project is the first step in Phase I of $3 million in planned renovations at the Ralston complex and began during the third week of May. The project is expected to be completed by September 2010.
