These new units include burn unit, central cardiac monitoring room section, two state-of-the-art sleep labs and a six- bed neurosurgical ICU section. Burn unit features eight isolation rooms, all of which are equipped with an air monitoring device to ensure prevention of infection. The unit also features a three-bed ICU section for severe cases.

Rashid Hospital has also unveiled 10 central cardiac monitoring rooms, which can also be used as isolation rooms. The sleep lab is another addition equipped with two sleep chambers. The first chamber is designed to monitor cases of epilepsy, convulsions and movement of eyes during sleep. The second chamber will be used to examine the respiratory system during sleep.

The new ICU section features a six bed neurosurgery unit, taking the total number of beds in the ICU section to 76.

The renovation scheme forms part of DHA’s strategy to renovate the 600-bed Rashid Hospital, which was built in 1973 and is still one of the busiest hospitals of the region. About 80% of the work has been completed.
