The new GBP45 million ($65 million approx) terminal will be able to handle three million passengers by 2015. The terminal construction project includes six new departure gates, which was completed in 18 months time.

The new terminal building at Bournemouth Airport will be twice the size of the old building and the amount of retail and catering space will be tripled. The expansion scheme has installed new navigation and lighting systems on runways to allow aircraft to operate in adverse weather conditions; resurfaced the runway; and expanded its apron to accommodate 11 planes.

The new terminal project forms part of the GBP32 million ($47.2 million approx) airport redevelopment program announced by the airport’s owners Manchester Airports Group in 2007. The project mainly focused on creating new car parking spaces in two separate car parks and building a new International Arrivals terminal.
