The 51-story Shenzhen Stock Exchange tower is expected to be the first in China to achieve the China Green Building Code’s top three-star rating. The building is designed to use 40% less water and 20% less energy compared to local design code regulations.
The OMA-designed building spanning 175,000 square meters will house the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and commercial space, and will be a landmark building in Shenzhen’s new financial district. The main stock exchange functions are housed in a podium which cantilevers from, and is supported by, the tower. This raised platform creates a 38m high covered urban plaza, large enough to accommodate public gatherings and performances.
Global design firm Arup provided comprehensive design services, including structure, building services, façade, fire engineering, building physics, lighting design, vertical transportation, acoustics and communications design.
The main contractor China Construction 3rd Bureau began work on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange tower in January 2009. The topping out ceremony was conducted on June 26, 2010. Façade construction has already begun and the building is expected to be completed in late 2011.
