The Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound, which is a joint venture between Texas Health Resources and local physicians through a partnership developed by Texas Health Partners, has been designed by US-based architectural design firm HKS.
The four-storey hospital, which opened on 30 April 2010, features 103 inpatient beds, an emergency department and a wide range of medical services including services for women and children. The layout of the hospital campus has been designed to provide views of a tree-covered environment. The site also features healing gardens of respite and walking trails for patients and families to enjoy the park-like surroundings. First floor of the hospital features lobby areas and meditation room with floor-to-ceiling scenes of the landscaped, green courtyard.
The scheme has been designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Incorporation of the latest developments in green building technology has made the facility one of the most environmentally-friendly hospitals in the country. About 20% of the construction materials contained recycled content or were locally produced. Balfour Beatty was the primary construction contractor for the hospital.
The IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Design Excellence Awards recognize the highest quality and achievement in interior design, and honour the creativity and innovation of the best of Texas and Oklahoma designers. The award was presented on 13 August 2010 at the Weston Galleria in Dallas, Texas.
