The 78ft Mylne Classic, Alinda V has undergone one year-long refit at Southampton Yacht Services. This classic ketch was first launched in 1934 by Alexander Stevens and Sons in Glasgow and has since spent long periods in the eastern Mediterranean.
Southampton Yacht Services has stripped out the interior. Teak planking, engine and tank spaces were scanned and fully engineered in CATIA / CAD software. The use of 3D in designing systems helped the engineering team to work simultaneously with painters, joiners and shipwrights. The engine room has been revamped to accommodate a new main engine, two generator sets, hydraulic system, water-maker and air-conditioning, with new fuel and water tanks, batteries, water pumps and a water treatment plant in the original tank spaces.
The interior refurbishment covered guest cabins. All three of them have been enhanced to house en suite heads. The saloon has been updated to include a chart table and improved stowage. The galley and crew cabins have also undergone a refit.
The new carpentry work of the refitted yacht reflects the original style of the yacht with new oak panelling reflecting the original patterns. Heads and galley with fixtures and fittings styled to suit the period are equipped with lightweight granite and marble surfaces.
Team at SYS had been successful in fitting Alinda V with the original 3000 square feet sail plan. Equipped with a full suite of hydraulic winches and power pack, Alinda V can be easily sailed shorthanded. Original cast bronze fittings are revived in place of all deck equipments.
The extensive refit of Alinda V has made the yacht an instantly recognisable one. The classic lines are retained with a multitude of modern and practical engineering solutions.
