CAI has been appointed as the owner-advisor to the BEDB – the government agency responsible for the upgrading and development of Brunei International Airport. The BND130 million ($99.2 million) project would be implemented on a ‘design & build’ basis by a separately appointed contractor.
The scope of consultancy encompasses assisting the BEDB to develop and prioritise the range of refurbishment needed to modernise the airport terminal and preparing tender documents for the design & build contract. CAI will undertake project management services during the construction stage. The construction project is expected to be completed within 36 months from the date of commencement.
The upgrade programme will include major refurbishment of the existing terminal building in line with international standards, strengthening the existing runway, provision of additional aerobridges and upgrading of existing operating systems to enhance passenger and flight security. The entire airport will be redeveloped in phases to enable expansion works to be carried out, while the existing airport remains operational.
CAI has formed a consortium with AECOM Asia Co Ltd, a subsidiary of AECOM, an engineering consultancy company with airport-related experience to undertake this redevelopment.
