Canadian drugstore chain Jean Coutu Group’s branch located at 980 Sainte-Catherine, Quebec is unique for the water concept integrated through out the interior by Groupe Chagall.

With ‘Water—source of well-being, health, and beauty’ as the centre design concept, the pharmacy features water-inspired design elements. Walls covered in waves; sparkling light flowing down from the ceiling like rain falling from the sky; large, stream-like structures adorning the ceiling; the sculpted rose over the perfume section reminiscent of morning dew are some of the unique elements created and handmade by the interior design firm’s designers, artists and cabinetmakers to complement the water concept.

Johanne Bousquet, president of Groupe Chagall explains that the specific architecture of the building also helps to give this refined atmosphere. The historic building in which the pharmacy is housed presented many architectural constraints with its two floors and wall dividing the room into two distinct sectors, but acted as a source of inspiration for the design team.

It is claimed that the new space has enabled Jean Coutu to further enhance and better merchandise its product offerings. The new facility improves the customers’ buying experience, as the store is better illuminated, less cramped, and more open.
