An open area with a huge curved set of windows allowing a view of the beautiful outside has replaced an escalator that used to carry travellers upstairs to the airport’s A gate. The floor has been adorned with an abstract terrazzo mural resembling downtown Asheville set against mountains.

Three new boarding gates have been added at ground level with two climate-controlled, enclosed pedestrian ramps to take passengers between the terminal and aircraft. The security screening area will be reconfigured. Some completed projects are repaving the parking lot and approach road and adding parking spaces. Parking toll plaza expansion and reconfiguration of the road leading to general aviation facilities are also completed.

A kind of quick-service food operation, along with a newsstand and gift shop, will be created off the main terminal lobby before security screening.
