The newly opened store for lifestyle merchandise retailer Urban Outfitters includes more than 12,000 square feet of space on two levels. The storefront design features wood mullions over glass, with steel plate signage recessed into the existing limestone façade.

Randhir Singh, executive director of design at Pompei A.D., stated that working within a concrete shell, the design team was able to offset this basic material by infusing the floors and walls with explosive patterns of wood planks. The fitting room and stairway design picks up on the use of wood and forms a sculptural landscape within the space. This has resulted in a warm and inviting experience.

Pompei A.D. also recently completed the design of the new Urban Outfitters store at 2629 Broadway on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The Broadway store encompasses 15,800 square feet of space on three levels. The interior includes a walnut wood panelled room with striped wallpaper and a tin ceiling, and a wall of glaze and matte tiles that produces a pixilated texture.

Pompei, principal and creative director of Pompei A.D., stated that the company has worked with Urban Outfitters for over 20 years to develop and evolve their retail strategy. Each store employs a site-specific design that preserves the original character of the space and responds to the distinct physical, historical and cultural context of its location.

Pompei A.D. has expertise in experiential branding, retail design, real estate and web design.
