Chapel Street is a major regeneration scheme that will link together Salford University, The Crescent, Chapel Street and Spinningfields and take advantage of Salford’s proximity to Manchester city centre.
The 177,440 square metre development has been master-planned to create sustainable communities with a balance of uses, including offices, commercial, retail and leisure, family housing and apartments, all linked by high-quality public realm and civic spaces. The main objective of the regeneration scheme is to restore Salford’s Chapel Street to a distinctive and pedestrian-friendly City High Street.
UK-based Glenn Howells Architects are to deliver mixed-use schemes within the development and new family town houses and additions to civic spaces.
The Salford Good Design Awards ceremony took place on 10 November 2010 at The Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays. Around 150 architects, developers and clients attended to see their contributions to Salford’s built environment celebrated.
According to Salford Ctiy Council, this award acknowledges that successful masterplanning is key to creating and re-creating great places.
