The design has attempted to make an architectural statement, which communicates with the existing structure as well as fulfills the functional requirements of a modern museum entrance.

The design incorporates multifunctional pieces of furniture made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic and fabric at the entrance of the museum. The pieces which resemble trees serve multiple uses of seating, shade and acoustic absorption. They also serve as illuminating bodies filling the room with white or blue glowing light at night.

These trees envelope the steel columns and provide a panoramic view through the glass ceiling and on to the historical façade.

The entrance lobby of the technical museum was fully glazed creating many problems inlcuding poor acoustics, over-heating in summer and cooling in winter, unattractive seating and a lack of identity. In order to overcome these issues, a competition followed in which Querkraft Architects managed to convince the 6-person jury with their design.
