The grass-roofed Hypar Pavilion restaurant spreads over a total area of 7200 square feet and is situated between the north end of the Plaza and twisting parabolic roof at Lincoln Center. The Hypar touches down at the SW corner plaza for access to the lawn and has two high points at the south-east and north-west corners. This topography of the lawn is designed to orient away from city noise and traffic, creating a bucolic urbanism.
The dual purpose space serves as an area for picnickers while also housing a high-end two-storey restaurant that can serve around 200 people. The restaurant features contoured wood ceiling that frames views to the plaza and the street. A split kitchen serves Italian food to 160 diners and can accommodate 40 people at the bar.
The restaurant occupies two levels with entrances from 65th street and Hearst Plaza. The main dining floor is designed as co-planar with the Plaza surface and the transparent facades linking diners to Lincoln Center’s public life. The open kitchen featured at the centre spans 1,000 square feet.
