The masterplan would include the construction of a five-storey inpatient pavilion, redesign of key health care service areas and upgrade of the hospital’s critical engineering systems. The master facility plan will enhance the Cardiac Center of Excellence, enhance patient experience through transition to all private patient rooms; create opportunities for physician recruitment and engagement and expand the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program.

The work will be completed in five phases. The first phase would include the construction of a 200,000 square-foot, 120-bed inpatient pavilion. The next phases would include construction of an energy centre, and renovations of the Columbian Towers and Health Pavilion.

The hospital’s current engineering system including chillers, boilers and power generators will receive an upgrade with majority of the systems to be located in a new central plant that will be built on the GSH campus. A new building for support services will also be constructed behind the hospital.

Once renovation is complete, the hospital will have a total of 165 beds, including inpatient, rehabilitation, and psychiatric.
