The council purchased the former Ergon Energy building, now dubbed Western Downs on Drayton, in 2009 to create a purpose-built administration centre. The refurbished new building will consolidate all council services under one roof.

The council will occupy all four levels of the building. The first floor of the new corporate office will be the customer service hub housing council departments that require high levels of customer contact. The council’s new contact centre along with the environmental health and planning and building sections will be located on the first floor. The first floor design also includes a number of shared meeting rooms to facilitate customer interaction along with multi-purpose training rooms and a staffroom.

The second floor will consist of the engineering services, community services and economic development. The finance and information communication technology will be located on the third floor. The fourth floor will be occupied by executive services, the mayor’s office, the councillors’ boardroom, organisational services and part of the finance team.

Once the refurbishment is over, Western Downs on Drayton will house the current staff strength of 150. The new building will have provisions for future expansions.
