The ‘ReSource’ kitchen features nine novel concepts of futuristic appliances that consider sustainability and culture under the theme of ‘Re-Source’. All of the elements of ‘ReSource’ project were created with the future in mind. Each of them have been designed to enhance the sustainability of cooking and incorporate culture reference points. Students from Argentina, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Italy, Turkey, India, Taiwan, China, South Korea and Hong Kong were selected to take part in the project.
Kinetic Efficient Water Appliance (KEWA) created by Pietro Russomanno, Italy allows cleaning utensils and plates with air pressure. Water is directed through kinetic jets to create a ‘water-blade’ that is capable of cleaning a dish or a pan in one single stroke, saving water and energy. A hand-held cleaner is also featured to remove traces of dirt in advance.
Aeolus by Chi Rong Hsu from Taiwan is a kitchen hood that filters and purifies the air in the kitchen and provides space for storing utensils. The product has been designed in response to manage wok cooking within an enclosed space.
CLEAiR by Ariadna Tellez Rossell, Mexico is an air purifier that provides automatic status updates about the condition of air in the home. The three separate table mounted cleaners can also be used for general cleaning in a hand-held position.
Breathe by Beyza Dogan, Turkey is a living kitchen appliance that literally ‘breathes in’ air pollutants through ionization. A clean kitchen environment is complemented by ambient light that follows the natural cycle of the day making the appliance visually appealing.
Jumble by Zahira Ivelisse Crespo from Puerto Rico is a set of three induction plates that allows easy transfer of cooking vessel from one temperate zone to another. A remote control operates the three cooking zones and frees up valuable counter space.
‘Wine’ by Jung Kun Choi, South Korea brings an aesthetic element to wine collection and storage. The wall mounted showcase displays the bottles while maintaining their optimal temperature. A cabinet to chill and store suitable foods served is also featured.
Celcius by Marcela Vanesa Céspedes, Argentina is a kitchen waste disposal and recycling appliance in which enzymes break down organic waste to create energy that is sent to containers linked by conductive pipes. It can then be used to heat small appliances in the home.
Chefiamo by Jervis Chua, Hong Kong is designed as a virtual cook book that assists, guides, inspires and maintains cooking traditions through the projection of recipes. A hologram programmed and projected on to a counter top helps through the cooking process, making it easier to recreate special recipes. An interactive glove measures progress.
