The renovation will include construction of a new three-storey tower on the north side of the arena. The top floor would feature ten suites while the other floors will house office space and a club lounge. The project will include bowl seating with a designated courtside student section. The priority seating will be increase though overall seating would decrease from the current capacity of 8,998.
The entry lobby and the concourses in the coliseum will be widened and new video boards, scoreboards, sound system, broadcast capabilities and heating and cooling systems will be added. The renovation will also include upgrades to the existing office suites, restrooms and locker rooms.
The Moody Foundation has announced a donation of $20 million to fund the expansion plans. The university is working to raise the remaining $20 million through additional donors. Dates for construction have not been set, however, university officials were reported stating that the construction could start at the end of the 2011-12 season.
