Work includes the $3 million project for construction of the new, nine-classroom addition to the high school building as part of the renovation project. Designed by Philadelphia-based firm Blackney Hayes, the three-storey addition will be placed between the main high school building and the gymnasium in the area behind the breezeway. The improvements will make the classrooms more spacious. The project will be funded from the $13.5 million approved for the high school refurbishment work. Designs will be ready by mid-2011 with bids to be awarded by 2011 end. Work on the classroom addition is scheduled to be ready by 2012.
The school board has also given the green light to a $308,804 funding for replacing the entire seats in the high school auditorium. The contract for this work has been awarded to Reisinger Incorporation. Authorities have also sanctioned an extra $200,004 to replace some segments of sidewalk and curbing at the school.
Further, plans have been taken for building a multi-purpose field which is presently lacking funds of $120,000. The board has struck an agreement with Modell’s Sporting Goods who will provide $2,000 in cash, $1,000 in gift cards for Athletic Department supplies in addition to about $13,000 annually from its Team Week programme for the field project. Improvements to the facility will also include replacement of its elevator 1.
