The project built on a 56 acre area of land forms part of a mixed-use development scheme termed Brookleigh. It is due to be completed in six phases featuring apartments for independent seniors, a new retail village, mid-rise apartments as well as single family homes and condominiums. The senior apartment community marks the third phase of the development project.

The new community will house 121 apartments. It will be adorned with private gardens, a residents’ lounge and media room. Other features of the senior apartment community include fitness centre, a sunroom along with a bocce ball court.

The facility’s one and two-bedroom units will be equipped with kitchens comprising pantry, Energy Star eligible appliances, microwaves, washer/dryer hook-ups as well as large walk-in closets.

There will also be balconies in some of the apartments. Apartments positioned on the ground storey will possess direct entrance facility from outside.

Hearthside also imbibes several green features such as installation of energy-saving appliances and lighting systems including LED outdoor lighting, and rainwater harvesting system.

The apartment also employs measures to improve the quality of interior air while abiding by EarthCraft House Multifamily norms. In addition, the senior community residents will be offered community garden plots.

The project site is owned by the Housing Authority of DeKalb County whereas a public-private collaboration of NorSouth and HADC will be responsible for the project development. The apartments are expected to be ready for occupancy by early 2012.
