The project involved upgrade of the HVAC system of the center and revamping of the interior spaces of the convention center. The roof of the building was also changed as a part of this project. A new kitchen is also added to the building to facilitate ease in working for the staff. Work on the kitchen is still underway and is likely to be completed by mid-September 2011.
Furthermore, the project has also added new light in the building, and revamped the in-house sound, floor and wall coverings. Scope of work also involves project will also refurbish the Junior Ballroom to create more space. The ballroom can double as a space for conducting small-size day meetings as well as larger events and meetings.
The outlay of the project was initially evaluated to be about $6.5 million. The convention center is operated by Shaner Hotels, which also operates Durham’s Marriott.
