The new specification will be applied to all new Kohl stores opening next year. The green elements used in the stores include an efficient building design which helps reduce energy consumption and installation of building automation systems. The facilities utilise 100% renewable energy sources. The plumbing fixtures as well as irrigation system of the buildings run low on water usage. The facilities also employ measures to upgrade the quality of indoor air.
A total of more than 100 units of the group are equipped with solar roofs while the distribution centre in Findlay, Ohio and store in Corpus Christi, Texas feature wind installations. Over 600 of Kohl’s stores are Energy-Star eligible. The materials used during the construction of the stores are reclaimable and procured through regional sources.
Implementation of eco-friendly cleaning methods, operational recycling and environmental education programmes further add to their sustainability. All the green measures used in the building are expected to help Kohl in phasing out carbon emissions completely.
