Construction of the hybrid and multi-use ORs form part of the latest phase of a construction and expansion project carried out by the hospital. The hybrid operating room, worth nearly $3.2 million, is slated to be the first of its type in the region. It will be equipped with industrial robotic technology and an imaging system.

This phase will also lead to creation of pre-operative and post anesthesia care wing with a bed capacity of 42, surgical pathology space, and family waiting area. Other features of the phase include creation of anesthesia workspace and offices, as well as staff lounges and conference room.

The 1.2 million square feet hospital has already opened adult and pediatric emergency units, two stories dedicated to patient care, public areas on the ground and first floors, and a new parking garage for patients as part of the project. The facility will house 512 spacious private patient rooms following the completion of the project. It will sport 650 private rooms when integrated with Kentucky’s Children Hospital while substituting the present UK Chandler Hospital. The entire project is due to be completed within six to ten years.
