Work will involve expanding the facility from the existing size of 9600 to 19,000 square feet. The number of exam rooms will also be raised from 21 to 32 following the makeover. All the rooms will be private with bulk of them measuring 144 square feet and donning a standard design.
The position of the patient rooms, arranged along a long hallway, will now increase their visibility levels from the nursing station. There will also be a reduction in non-ED foot traffic post revamp along with incorporation of a separate ED entryway. The waiting room will undergo an expansion while the intake zone will now allow increased privacy.
The remodelled ED will imbibe imaging capabilities. Further, lab space spanning 5700 square feet will be relocated to the basement level to make the ED more spacious. The present basement occupants will be shifted to the second storey of the building following relocation of patient financial services to the Emory Healthcare North Decatur office.
The project is slated to commence by August 2012.
