The new builds include a 750-seat Performing Arts Center and 5,000 square feet library. BCA Architects designed and built the facilities on contemporary lines.
The design of the new buildings seamlessly integrates with the 70 year old school while evolving as a modern interpretation of the neoclassical Greek Spartan mascot of the school.
The buildings were designed and developed to ensure minimal impact on the environment. Several sustainable practices were engaged, which include strategic location of the building. The orientation of the buildings allows them to reap maximum benefit from natural light.
The building are 50% more water efficient that other comparable buildings. This is being rendered by means of low-flow plumbing fixtures and water-efficient landscaping. Further sustainability is rendered by low-impact, energy-efficient HVAC systems.
The project also involved development of an on-site renewable energy system. In addition, BCA Architects has left 40% of the total site as vegetated open space, which adds a charm to the entire place. The Performing Arts Center is South San Diego’s largest and most sustainable theatrical arts facility. BCA Architects is aspiring for LEED Platinum certification for the project.
