The 40,000-square-foot expansion of the existing 120,000-square-foot dental facility, includes the expansion of the clinical space and upgradation of technologies to provide better healthcare facility to the patients.
The expansion project will add a lower level along with first and second floors, to accommodate 100 students each year. It will also include a new clinic, housing 24 operators, a larger faculty practice clinic, additional classroom space and a research lab. To accommodate additional students, the expansion will also add 24 stations to the the existing simulation lab, bringing the number of stations to 104.
The state committed $8 million to the project, with matching contribution from Marquette that included private donations. The donations included $2 million from Delta Dental of Wisconsin, $1 million from Rick Kushner, an alumnus and Colorado resident, and $1 million from Jeff and Beth Moos, alumni and residents of Mondovi. The expanded dental school is expected to open in fall 2013.
Founded in 1894, the Marquette University School of Dentistry is the only dental school in Wisconsin, which is a fully accredited, nationally recognized school.
