Also designed to cater to the needs of its 120 staff, the pathology department includes four separate pathology departments, which have been condensed into one large, eco-friendly, three-storied building.

The building is split into three colour-coded floors like red, green and blue, which are all connected via a hoist system which can transport samples up and down the levels. Everything from doors to furniture and even vacuum cleaners are the same colour.

A special pneumatic chute connects every single building in the hospital. First floor features the haematology section, which deals with blood and clotting disorders and is appropriately coloured in red. It features a £ 1.5 million ($2.27 million) sushi bar-style moving conveyor belt to store the specimens and samples. Apart from that it also features aid of machines named after Disney characters for the staff to remember the names easily.

The blue-coloured second floor is home to microbiology (germs) analysis. It features machines to do tests for norovirus, hepatitis, HIV, chlamydia and cervical cancer. One such machine is £150,000 ($227,062) mass spec machine, which looks like a drinks vending machine.

The microbiology floor also features a separate room specially designed to test for dangerous contagious diseases such as anthrax or tuberculosis. The room was tested by advisers from MI5 to make it as secure as possible and is surrounded by reinforced doors and walls.

The final green floor specialises in cancer diagnosis, where samples from tumours, biopsies and tissue taken from surgery are cut up and prepared for consultants to analyse.
