Located at Paddenswick Road, the student accommodation scheme will consist of three new buildings which will be three-, six- and seven-storeys tall, and will offer 234 self-contained studio bedrooms. The scheme will retain the traditional brick styling of the surrounding Edwardian and Victorian buildings.
The existing basements will be adapted to carry the new structures using secant waterproofing while the above ground structures will be of strong and durable reinforced concrete frame. Pre-cast brickwork panels will be used in the external area to speed up construction while zinc rainscreen cladding will be incorporated on the upper external façade for an enhanced visual effect.
The scheme will offer laundry, common room and cycle store facilities as well as a plantroom and newly landscaped courtyard areas. A pre-school child nursery for the adjacent John Betts Primary School will be constructed on the ground floor of the three-storey building.
The development is scheduled to be complete in autumn 2014.
