What does Decking Finish mean?
Unlike a decking stain or a decking oil, AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish does several jobs in one easy 2 coat application. It provides excellent protection for the timber against damage caused by the sun and weather, its stain resistant formulation protects the timber against food, oil and water stains resulting from everyday use and it gives long-lasting colour and an attractive finish to the wood.
How does AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish work?
This product takes advantage of new highly innovative nano technology. Developed in France, the water-based oil formulation contains two types of UV filter; one which penetrates deep in to the fibres of the timber to prevent degeneration caused by sunlight and weather. The other UV filter sits on top of the timber and reflects the sunlight away from the timber to stop fading and further damage. The formula also contains stain resisting properties which help protect the timber from stains resulting from everyday wear and tear such as tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, wine, beer and fats and oils from the Barbeque.
Where should AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish be used?
AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish is suitable for most types of timber decking. In the case of new hardwood decking, we recommend leaving the timber to weather for up to 12 months in order to allow the grain to open before treating with this product. For new softwood decking, the timber can be treated sooner.
How long will this product last?
As AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish is a water-based oil, it will need recoating approximately every 18 months – 2 years depending on the location of the timber and the amount of use it gets. Due to its penetrative nature, the product will need recoating in order to maintain the quality of the finish and the benefits it offers. We recommend keeping the finish in good condition by regularly using AQUA-STOP® Deck Aftercare, a specially designed cleaner for maintaining the finish created by AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish.
Is it safe to use around animals and plants?
Yes, once dried the product is safe for animals and plants.
How should AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish be applied?
Apply a generous coat of AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish with a paint brush or roller. Allow to penetrate for 15 to 30 minutes (depending on the porosity of the wood). Wipe off any excess with a lint-free cotton cloth. Apply a second coat in the same way as the first. Leave to dry for 2 hours and wait 24 hours before using your decking.
The product may be used on tanelized timber but this will affect the colour of the finish which will appear darker and we therefore recommend using a lighter colour for this type of timber.
Are there any precautions to be taken when using AQUA-STOP® Tough Deck Finish?
