One of Englands most famous historical landmarks has just completed a full refurbishment of its wooden floors, using Becker Acromas Parquet One floor lacquer.
Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, which is Grade 1 listed and boasts a history dating back to the first century BC, is one of the most striking landmarks in the northeast, welcoming over 120,000 visitors to walk across its floors every year.
The Castles refurbishment has included the Kings Hall; the largest single floor area to be coated during the project. It covers approximately 250 square metres and, aside from normal visiting, is regularly used for weddings and corporate events.
Castle administrator, Ron Bewley, says, With the amount of foot traffic we have at the castle, it is vital that our floors can stand up to it without becoming damaged. The finished floors look great; I am delighted that we have managed to achieve a durable finish, whilst still maintaining an excellent appearance. The Kings Hall looks really striking.
Geoff Barlow, flooring sales manager at Becker Acroma, explains, Parquet One is a 100% waterborne polyurethane lacquer and with high durability and low odour, making it ideal for this type of situation where preservation is a key issue. It also meets BS7044 (1990) for slip resistance, which is particularly important in the Kings Hall, when it has so many uses. A full maintenance system is also available to keep the floor in tip top condition.
The refurbishment work was carried out by Alan Craig of Alnwick Flooring with Becker Acromas Parquet One lacquer supplied by Syntema North East Ltd.
