Working with the airport management team, Qatar Airways and HOK Architects, SmartDesign Group will lead the overall retail strategy as a part of the contract. The Group would define a new branded experience for the commercial space and the interior design for duty-free, retail boutiques, food courts and restaurants.

The first phase of this project will see the expansion of 24,000 square meters of commercial space to 32,000 square meters. Designed to accommodate 12 million passengers annually, the first phase is expected to reach completion by 2011.

NDIA aims to set new standards in airline efficiency, passenger convenience and service standards. The landmark design of the new airport will feature state-of-the-art facilities and world-class amenities to provide a premium experience for all passengers.

Upon completion, the airport will have a total capacity of 48 million passengers annually. NDIA will be the world’s first airport to be designed and built specifically for the Airbus A380 aircraft – the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
