BAC will award the airport expansion contract to Paris-headquartered ADPI, the airport authority that owns and manages the fourteen civil airports and airfields in the Île-de-France area in Paris.
Under the contract, the company will be responsible to develop the master plan of the airport expansion scheme, which includes two new passenger terminals and an airport city project. The airport city project is expected to last at least 30 years. The expansion will include all modern facilities, including leisure areas, swimming pool, shopping centers and hotels. The present terminal building, Terminal 1, will be demolished in 2014 and replaced with a brand new state-of-the-art structure within a few years.
The expansion scheme will also include construction of an air traffic control tower, cargo facilities, a royal flight terminal and road and rail links to the airport. Phase I of the development will include expansion of the existing passenger terminal and the expansion of the passenger concourse. A multi floor car park and the airport city are planned towards the south of the existing terminal.
The expansion is expected to enhance the airport’s capacity to 12 million passengers a year from the current four million.
