Located on the island famous for its exuberant nightlife, the new Aguas de Ibiza hotel is a refreshingly laid-back affair. The atmosphere of frantic partying ends as soon as you enter the doors to experience an atmosphere of calm, uncomplicated luxury.

This new five-star hotel was six years in the making for seasoned hoteliers the Torres family. Its whitewashed exterior and the 1,000 year-old olive tree marking the entrance speak of an older Mediterranean tradition. Inside, however, the lobby’s powerful steel and stone design and the sunlight streaming in from four open floors projects an image that’s very much of this century.

The hotel has 112 rooms spread over the first three floors of the building. There’s a choice of standard deluxe rooms, junior suites and corner suites. Each is defined by a striking blue and white colour scheme and a crisp, fresh feel. The designers, Kim Castells and Jordi Cuenca of Triade Studio, chose the airy colours and materials to reflect the island’s special qualities of air, water and light.

What is probably the hotel’s biggest secret hides on the fourth floor. The exclusive Cloud 9 club has private access, its own check-in desk, breakfast lounge and services. Essentially, it’s a luxury hotel within a luxury hotel. Warm, earthy tones distinguish the rooms from the rest of the establishment. The rooms on this floor are named Luxury Lofts and have hardwood parquet floors and oversized bathtubs. Private terraces are reserved for the Corner Lofts which have 180-degree views of the Santa Eulalia Bay Marina.

An Ibizan hotel would not be complete without a chill-out bar and this time it’s up on the roof: Air Ibiza has an exotic golden-tiled pool with underwater sounds system. The hotel also offers The Revival Wellness Club, designed along the theme of ‘eco-luxury’; Scuba, a lively cocktail bar, and La Sal, a gourmet restaurant.
