The centre will be designed by ARQ Architects and constructed by Hutter Construction. The LEED certified center will be created by renovating the existing 27-year-old facility. The renovation will increase the area of the existing facility to 4850 square feet. The revamped centre will incorporate various features which will optimise passage of natural daylight and improve ventilation. The upgraded building will also be equipped with sustainable systems which will help it consume less energy.
Other green features of the facility include conservation of rainwater which will be collected from the roof and utilised for its cleaning. The centre will also install a geothermal heat exchanger in addition to solar thermal collectors to facilitate heating and cooling in the building.
The $2.7 million project has received $1.5 million in capital funding from the League’s Capital Trust. ARL of Boston plans to raise $1.2 million from public and foundation support.
