The project commenced in 2008. The new terminal, situated on the eastern part of the airport, spans over an area of 1.2 million square feet. It is characterised by a cambered roof, gentle metallic curves and angular framework, as well as glass façade.
The terminal features a 12-gate concourse which is connected to the existing international concourse of the airport to create a 40-gate travel complex. It also comprises 64 extra check-in kiosks and an additional 80 ticketing counters. Among various other features of the terminal include eight security checkpoints, separate levels for arrivals and departures, ample shopping and dining outlets, and 3,500 parking areas.
In addition, the new terminal imbibes a host of green features including a 25,000 cubic feet water box. The water box collects rainwater from the roof of the international terminal and concourse and filters it before sending it back into the environment. The facility also provides increased ventilation and monitoring of incoming outdoor air. Use of low-VOC paints, sealants, carpeting and adhesives throughout, as well as green cleaning products and techniques add to the sustainability.
