The facility has been completely renovated in accordance with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Gold certification standards of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The renovated office space is unique for the widespread introduction of ‘green’ materials throughout. Some highlights are: bamboo flooring and desks made from compressed recycled paper; the use of solar panel-powered carbon-free energy; and a physical location one block away from the Light Rail stop, in order to encourage employees to take public transportation. The building construction process has diverted more than 95% of the waste away from the landfill.

Aviat Networks has used a LEED consultant to maximize the use of environmentally-friendly materials throughout the building, conserve energy and implement a plan for employee participation. The new green building’s roof is installed with 144 new solar panels to meet 20% of the building’s lighting requirement. Glass panels and large windows have been incorporated along the top of the workstations to flood the interiors with natural light. LED lights will be used to illuminate entrances at night.

The company signed a contract with the city of Santa Clara to use 100% carbon-free energy. It developed a low-energy server room and added a new heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit which will allow a 20% reduction in energy through the use of a building management system for temperature control.

The new sustainable HQ features lobby desk made of recycled paper, compressed into a hard surface. More than 80% of the paper used within the building will be recycled as well. The bathrooms in the facility are equipped with water-efficient fixtures, toilets and sinks, and waterless urinals. These measures are expected to reduce water use by 40% compared to standard fixtures. Recycled water will be used for landscaping to achieve greater efficiency and decrease water consumption.

Aviat Networks has relocated its HQ as part of the company’s global re-branding effort as Aviat Networks, Inc, which was formerly known as Harris Stratex Networks, Inc. The name change took effect on January 28, 2010.

Aviat Networks is a multinational company providing broadband mobility technology to network operators, government, public safety organizations, the defense industry and private companies.
