Named after Peter Mokaba, a former leader of the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League, the football stadium’s concrete steel structure supports the roof plane assembled together at each corner. Large ‘trunk’ structures designed to accommodate vertical circulation ramps and service cores, in turn, supports the steel structure.

A hierarchy of ‘tree’ structures are incorporated into the Peter Mokaba Stadium scheme. The constitution highlights the efficiency of the design through the repetition of elements. Four two tier stands form the bowl, with the lower tiers creating a full bowl with executive facilities accommodated in the West Stand. Players, press, parking and support facilities are located below this.

The 45,000-seat stadium features 500-seat VIP area, seats for 1,675 media representatives, VIP reception area and lounge spanning 800 square meters, offices, storage areas and parking.

The stadium is built next to the old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Initial plans to upgrade the current Peter Mokaba Stadium were abandoned in favor of the new Peter Mokaba stadium.
