The Student Village consists of three-story cottages which are connected by a sequence of garden paths, courtyards and outdoor living spaces. The integration of these outdoor setting is intended to alleviate impact to the local environment. The rooms feature a private bath, with each cluster of 12 rooms sharing a common great room, kitchen, study room, laundry room and storage. The student Village is designed to house 132 students.

A distinct eco-friendly feature of the cottage is the ‘butterfly roof’ design that enables the collection of rainwater, which is then released slowly into a nearby wetland, preventing flooding and erosion. The building also benefits from natural ventilation and radiant floor heating. Some other green elements integrated into the structure are the use of locally sourced, FSC-certified wood and countertops made of recycled paper and bamboo fiber.

The facility is on track to become one of the first student housing projects in the US to win the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Gold or Platinum certification.
