The project will include various phases with the first phase involving construction of a new indoor aquatic centre. The current two-storey pool comprising four lanes will be replaced by a bigger six-lane pool as well as an additional family splash space. The splash section will facilitate therapeutic sessions apart from serving other functions.
The first phase will also include construction of new men’s and women’s locker rooms, a new family locker room in addition to a new pool office area and a storage section. The deck viewing space at the revamped pool will be bigger than the same area at the present pool. The pool will also feature new parking lots, a main entrance, a new cafe along with a more open lobby as part of phase one refurbishments. The new YMCA will have an elevator and will be in keeping with federal ADA standards.
Construction on the project is expected to start by 2011 end after three-to-four months of pre-construction work. Construction work will be conducted over portions of the current footprint of the indoor pool and surrounding facilities. The first phase is scheduled to be over within eight to ten months.
