The nationwide contest that recognizes innovation in outdoor kitchen creation is open to all design professionals, including architects, landscape architects, interior designers and certified kitchen designers. The award is presented by Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet and Garden Design Magazine. Brian Griffith is the third designer to win the competition.

Through his winning design, Griffith tried to incorporate the social aspect of entertaining family and friends. Rather than being isolated in another part of the home preparing the food, in Griffith’s design, the chef is literally center stage to the festivities, on a platform slightly higher than the dining table. For quiet conversations, Griffith created sitting areas within the confines of the entire outdoor space.

The design features convenient two-tiered cooking and serving station. Kalamazoo Outdoor Gourmet’s premium quality products including the hybrid built-in grill, warming and refrigerated drawers, the Outdoor Artisan Pizza Oven and wine chiller are also within the reach of the chef.

Brian holds a master’s degree in landscape architecture from the Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in urban planning from the University of Cincinnati. Griffith has recently started his own landscape design firm, Griffith Imagery.
