Brintons, renowned as manufacturer of high-quality woven Axminster carpets, has a history of supplying Axminster carpet to airports around the world including Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Brintons’ design teams in Singapore and India have developed carpet designs that exemplify Delhi’s rich historical past and its modern present. Brintons has fused the design elements from Delhi’s historical monuments with the modern skyline of the city to create a contrasting, and harmonious image of the old and the New Delhi.
As patterns being an essential part of Indian design, Brintons has integrated geometrics, swirls, floral and foliage, as well as the most famous Indian shape, the Paisley, into its carpet designs. The colors also complement the theme as they are selected from typical street scenes, monuments, foods, spices and festivals in all four regions of India.
In order to supply enough carpet for the new building, which is designed to be the third biggest airport terminal building in the world, Brintons needs to manufacture and supply 175,000 square meter of woven Axminster. This is equal to the area of 24 football pitches.
Founded in 1783 as a family-owned business, the company’s headquarters is in Kidderminster, UK but it operates other plant facilities in India and Portugal.
IGI is the busiest airport in India in terms of number of daily flights and the second-busiest in India in terms of passenger volume. The new $1.94 billion Terminal 3 building, currently under construction, will handle an additional 37 million passengers annually before the start of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
