The look of the room will be a modern take on a 1950s living room. Its floors and walls will be covered in Brintons carpet inspired by the famous ‘Net and Ball’ design, used in the Royal Festival Hall foyer for the 1951 Festival of Britain.
The same festival design will be used to cover a 1950s sofa on jersey fabric to create a play on scale and challenge the interpretation of a living space.
A felt ceiling sculpture will also be featured using remnants of yarn from the production of Brintons carpets, echoing the post-war ethos of thrift current in 1951.
On the occasion, Brintons will also launch a rug collection and its patented High Definition Weave technology.
The Coronation Rug collection is inspired by the original 1950s designs from Brintons’ archives, including the Mimosa Design by Matisse dating back to 1951.
Brintons’ High Definition Weave technology involves display of a woodland image woven on High Definition Weave loom. The technology claims to produce photo-realistic, three-dimensional design definition in 32 colours, compared to non-conventional looms that use eight to twelve colours.
